Let’s look back in time and know the unforgettable moments on the very day of 15 August 1947.
This day when the chains of slavery broke and Hindustani was free, is the celebration of that day. That day when the prime minister of independent India gave his first speech, it’s a celebration of that day.Â
day when nature too wanted to be part of the celebration by showering its drops from the sky, it is the celebration of that day.
It’s a celebration of breaking all the if and buts to India’s freedom. It’s a celebration of when India and its people were free after 200 years of slavery. The happiness of a single day weighed more than the pain and suffering of years. Â
When the chains of slavery were broken piece by piece , India was reborn.
This story is of the last 24 hours of slavery.
Lord Mountbatten was sent to India as the last viceroy. He decided the date to give command of India to Indian hands, it was 15 August 1947.
In India, the pandits were not like the date, as according to them, it was not holy. They objected to the date and appealed to change it. But Mountbatten was stuck with his date plan. In this circumstance, a middle way to deal with this situation was found. It was decent and acceptable by all. Technically, India and Pakistan were set free on the same date. But the official celebration was on August 15.Â
The preparation in India was on top. The Indian National Congress ordered that the cinema houses will show free shows, and the students of every school will get sweets. It was a wait of just a few hours and then the soil and the sky were all free.
That day the sky was cloudy in the morning. That midnight, nature also became a part of the celebration. It was raining.
The central hall of the parliament was ready for the celebration.
It was the biggest day for India in Indian history, but Mahatma Gandhi was not present in the celebration. With independence and division, there was violence in some of the states, Mahatma Gandhi was present there to resolve them. He was in Kolkata.Â
Here in Delhi, the celebration started. At the start of the celebration, everybody kept two minutes of silence for the freedom fighters.Sucheta kriplani sang ‘Vande Mataram’. Dr. Rajendra Prasad addressed the council. Dr. Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan gave his speech by mentioning the glory of India.
The most important address was of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. He started his speech by “Long years ago we made it tryst with destiny and now the time comes when we should redeem our pledge”. One of the important lines in his speech was “At the stroke of the midnight hour when the world sleeps India will awake to life and freedom”. In actuality in spite of midnight no Indian even has a shadow of sleep in his eyes. That moment India opened her eyes to dream, dream of a free country, life and new India.
As soon as it was 12, shells were played, and slogans were raised. And in between the slogans and playing of shells, new India, independent India was taking birth. In the atmosphere of the nation of oldest culture, the hope of a better future was floating. That moment every home was praying. He accepted the position. Hansa Mehta gifted the national flag.
This time when people got up they got up in an independent India.Â
Today was the celebration of free India. Jawaharlal Nehru took the pledge as the first Prime Minister of India.
The Princes Park today’s Vijay chowk was maintained for around a gathering of 30 thousand people. It was more than 5 lakh people. Mountbatten and Lady batten were not able to reach the stage due to the massive crowd so they decided to see the flag hoisting from the other side. The people from the band were lost; they too were unable to reach the stage.
6pm in the evening on the waves of the sea of massive people, India’s pride, the combination of the most beautiful colors of the world, unity and peace, the Indian National flag was hoisted.
That moment was also special. It was not just a flag, it was a symbol of sacrifices, love towards nation and unity. The greatest symbol of the country is the national flag.
