The Cricketing Boards of India and Pakistan are going toe to toe as the off field battles continue. While BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the Indian team won’t travel to Pakistan for next year’s Asia Cup. To challenge the BCCI, PCB released a statement that said that it would boycott the Upcoming ODI World Cup which is set to be held in India and also threatened to pull out of the ACC as a member of the council.Â
Pakistan is contemplating the decision to back out of the upcoming World Cup 2024 which is going to be held in India. This decision was an immediate reaction to the decision taken by the BCCI. BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that India won’t be playing the upcoming ODI Asia Cup 2024 in Pakistan and would rather play it in a neutral venue. ACC board decided that the next venue of the upcoming Asia Cup would be Pakistan. but coincidentally the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council is Jay Shah.Â
It’s to be decided about the new venue for the Asia Cup. UAE has held the previous Asia Cup, and in total has held it four times. “The Asia Cup 2024 will take place in a neutral location,” “I say this as president of the ACC. The Indian Team cannot enter Pakistan, and they cannot enter India. In the past, the Asia Cup was also held at a neutral site, ” Shah told the media following the BCCI’s AGM. Soon after the decision was taken by Jay Shah in a meeting which was conducted by the BCCI, PCB released a statement.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued the following statement in response to Tuesday’s remarks by Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah:
The PCB has noted with surprise and dismays the remarks made yesterday by ACC President Jay Shab regarding the relocation of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The remarks were made without consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council of the Pakistan Cricket Board (the event’s host) or consideration of their long-term consequences and implications. PCB has also threatened to leave the ACC if the Indian Team does not attend the Asia Cup whose hosts are Pakistan in 2024.
After presiding over the ACC meeting in which Pakistan was awarded the ACC Asia Cup with a unanimous vote, Mr. Shah’s announcement of the relocation of the Asia Cup received a resounding vote of confidence and response from ACC Board members. The ACC Asia Cup was established unilaterally. This goes against the philosophy and spirit underlying The Asian Cricket Council was established in September 1963 as a unified organization to protect the interests of its Members and the Council, development, and promotion of cricket in Asia.
Statements that caused off field battles between India vs Pakistan
Such statements have the potential to cause off field battles between Asian and international cricket communities and can influence Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2024 and future ICC Events in India from 2024 to 2031. To date, the PCB has not received official communication or clarification from the ACC regarding the statement. As a result, the PCB has requested that the Asian Cricket Council convene an emergency meeting of its Board of Directors as soon as is practicable to discuss this crucial and delicate matter.
In the next 4 years, India and Pakistan hold multiple competitions. India is set to host the ODI World Cup right after the Asia Cup, whose host is Pakistan. After the World Cup, Pakistan is set to host the Champions Trophy in 2025. India plays Pakistan at neutral Venues but the Indian Team hasn’t stepped foot in Pakistan since 2008. The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was in India in 2012/13. It seems to be a long way before the Cricket boards of both countries come to an agreement soon and put an end to these off field battles.
