The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the government of India, is encouraging entrepreneurs to come up with new technological and commercial solutions to problems in India’s urban water sector. The challenge is called the India Water Pitch-Pilot-Scale Start-up Challenge under AMRUT 2.0.

- Promotion of the ‘Make in India‘ program via promoting Indian-origin startups and technology solutions.
- Collaboration with the private sector, institutions, industry groups, and others to implement solutions.
- Startups that accomplish the intended results will get promoted to get more exposure.
On Saturday, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced the “India Water Pitch-Pilot-Scale Start-up Challenge.” The project got launched at an event that was part of the government’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0.
The government will choose 100 startups delivering practical and sustainable solutions to urban water concerns. In addition, the government would provide them with Rs. 20 lakhs in three installments of Rs. 5 lakhs, Rs. 7 lakhs, and Rs. 8 lakhs.
It’s only possible if startups achieve specified criteria and work objectives mentioned in their project application. The shortlisted startups will get help by mentoring.
Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s view on the challenge
“Startups are the flavor of the season, as the number of ‘unicorns’ in the nation has increased by leaps and bounds,” the Minister stated.
In the water industry, stakeholder contributions are essential for developing government programs. Puri described AMRUT 2.0 as a revolutionary and one-of-a-kind initiative. It has a big budget of over Rs 2.77 lakh crore.
According to the minister, the strategy would safeguard the country’s water security, lower transportation costs, prevent groundwater pollution, and boost water use capacity. According to the statement, water-related startups from throughout the nation attended the event. They showcased their innovative ideas and cutting-edge technologies.
Eligibility criteria for the challenge
- All organizations are recognized as start-ups by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). To learn more about this program, visit

Participation rules for the challenge
- The Challenge will be active from 11:00 a.m. on March 12, 2022 until 17:30 on May 11, 2022. The India Water Pitch-Pilot-Scale applications will be accepted at

- Participants may register using any valid email address. When an applicant submits a registration request, an email will be sent to the registered email address confirming their registration and explaining the participation procedure.
- The registered applicant may submit a proposal by clicking the ‘Participate’ button.
This kind of challenge allows startups to develop and adapt. And the government will continue to promote such skills in order for the country and its people to grow.
