Indian contingent’s consistent run at the ISSF World Championships continued on Sunday, as the trio of Kiran Jadhav, Rudrankksh Patil and Arjun Babuta powered to victory over China by 16-10 in the 10m air rifle men’s team event of the World Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
The Chinese team did try to fight back from trailing with 2-14 to 10-14 led by Yang Haoran, the World and Olympic champion, but the Indian team didn’t allow further thrill in the event and ended it with a final score of 16-10.
In the women’s team event, Meghana Sajjanar, Mehuli Ghosh and Elavenil Valarivan defeated Germany by 17-11 for the bronze medal match. Previously, the Indian team had missed the final by 0.5 points to the USA.
In the air pistol women’s team event, China beat the trio of Rhythm Sangwan, Palak Gulia and Yuvika Tomar by 16-8 for the Gold medal.
The men’s air pistol team event was disappointing as Naveen, Shiva Narwal and Vijayveer Sidhu missed the medal round by 2 points and ended up being placed at 5 in the final event. Previously the Indian team was at the top in the qualification round with 878 points, 5 more than eventual gold medalist China.
ISSF Junior Events
There was double glory for the Indian contingent in the 25-metre standard pistol mixed team junior event. Manvi Jain and Sameer Ghulia won the silver and the second Indian duo of Payal Khatri and Sahil Dudhane won the bronze.
Manvi Jain and Sameer Ghulia got beaten 17-3 by the Chinese duo Feng Sixuan and Liu Yangpan. Payal Khatri and Sahil Dudhane beat the Norweigian pair 16-14 to clinch the bronze.
The women’s team of Nikita Kundu, Nischal and Nupur Kumrawat were positioned at 10th with a score of 1278 in the rifle 3-position junior event.
Sartaj Tiwana, Pankaj Mukheja and Surya Pratap Singh scored 1293 (3rd position) in the qualification round of the 50-metre rifle 3-position junior men’s team event,
India is placed second with 12 medals so far including five gold, two silver and five bronze medals. China topped the list with 12 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze.
A total of 14 teams have opened a medal account so far in the World Championships and the US is the only other team than China and India to win gold so far.
India’s gold medals at ISSF World Championships
Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil won the gold in the 10m air rifle men’s event confirming an Olympics quota for India. He became the only second Indian to achieve this feat after Abhinav Bindra did it in 2006.
With the Gold, he also confirmed his quota in the Paris Olympics 2024. Rudrankksh has also won gold in the 10m air rifle team event. Patil, Kiran Jadhav and Arjun Babuta beat the Chinese team by 16-10 in the Gold medal match.

Udhayveer Sidhu won two golds in the junior men’s 25m and standard pistol events. He won the 25m event by scoring 580 points in total. He now is a two-time Men’s World Champion in 25 m air pistol.
Esha Singh emerged champion in the junior women’s 25m pistol event by beating China. Esha Singh registered 29/40 hits in the final event. She was 4th in the Qualification round.
