Parneet has become one of the upcoming players of India. She finished a lowly 13th in the qualifications. She also got into the finals of the compound women’s individual. She outplayed Kazakhstan’s Victoria (145-141) and Iran’s Geesa Bybordy (146-142).
With this, she has set up a gold clash against the second seed Sakshi. A second stream Indian team has won six medals, mostly in the compound category of the Asia Cup Archery Championship on Thursday.
Although India’s male archers were not able to clear the required rounds to get into the individual medal round, women archers took the bow in their hand in compound individuals.
The Indians archers still made amends in the team events advancing into the final in both the men’s and women’s sections. The high point of the day came in the compound section where India remained in line for a clean sweep.
India has sent their fringe archers to the tournament which already has lost some sheen after pull-out from South Korea, Japan, China and Chinese Taipei. National champion Parth Salunkhe, who earned the top-seed, and sixth seed Dhiraj B of the Services unfortunately made first-round exits.
The fourth seed Tisha Punia gave India a ray of hope after India’s consecutive losses in men’s matches and Women’s top seed Ridhi’s defeat. Tisha Punia performed well in the women recurve individual match, setting up a bronze playoff. It will be against the Malaysian rival- Naa Fozi.
It was just a four-team affair in the recurve women’s team event as the top-seeded Indian players like Ridhi, Tisha and Tanisha Verma ousted hosts Thailand 6-2 (56-57, 53-50, 50-39, 55-46) to set up a gold medal playoff against Bangladesh.
In an eight-member field, second seed Rishabh Yadav defeated Nawaz Ahmed Rakib of Bangladesh (148-144) as well as Iranian Sayed Kowsar (148-145). Now he has entered the summit clash. He will now play against Mohammedsaleh Palizban of Iran for the gold.
In the compound men individual event, India hopes for bronze from Prathamesh Jawkar who will play against Kowsar. It will be an Indian affair in the compound women’s event where Parneet Kaur will play against her teammate Sakshi Chaudhary.
The men’s trio- Dhiraj, Salunkhe and Rahul Kumar Nagarwal will finally clash against Kazakhstan. In a small field of seven teams, top-seeded India got a first-round bye, while in the semifinal round they overcame their opponents from Malaysia 5-1 (58-58, 54-49, 58-56).
