Operation Ganga is the Government of India’s evacuation program to evacuate Indian citizens from Ukraine-Russia chaos. PM Modi urges Indian Air Force to take part in the massive evacuation process and rescue as many as it can.
The IAF is set to send its large passenger carrier C-17 Globemaster took off at 4 am earlier today for Romania. Three more Aircraft are scheduled to take off in Poland, Hungry and Romania under Operation Ganga.
Amidst the conflict between the two countries, many Indian nationals are trapped in the conflict zone, including students who are there for medical studies. The Indian Air Force will send an aircraft with a capacity to carry 400 passengers to neighbouring Ukraine, which will boost the process and mission of bringing Indians back to the home.
To activate the evacuation efforts, the Indian Govt. appointed four special envoys to oversee the evacuation program of Indians stranded in Ukraine.
Union Petroleum and Natural gas minister Hardeep sing Puri will supervise the evacuation efforts in Hungry, General (retired) VK Singh in Poland, Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju in Slovakia, and Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is going to Romania and Moldova.
PM Modi has held several meetings to review the ongoing efforts under Operation Ganga to bring back Indians trapped in Ukraine. He also said that India would help people from neighbouring countries and developing countries stuck in Ukraine and ask for help.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan informed on Tuesday that all Indians had left Kyiv, and so far, about 60% of Indian nationals in Ukraine have left the country.
Further, he said that 60% of the estimated 20,000 Indians in Ukraine had been left the country since the Indian Govt issued the first advisory., He added that 26 flights had been scheduled to bring Indian citizens in the next three days.
Air India, Indigo, SpiceJet and Air India Express have joined the Operation Ganga mission operating several flights from Ukraine’s neighbouring countries to Delhi and Mumbai simultaneously.
On Tuesday, India suffered its first casualty amidst conflict; Naveen Shek Harappa died in Kharkiv, Ukraine. After shelling in the area, he was a resident of the Haveri district of Karnataka.
