According to a recent report ‘The HP India Gaming Landscape Study 2022’, Indian gamers are considering becoming professionals since they believe there is room for financial gain and professional advancement. As per the study, two-thirds of respondents are eager to consider gaming as a career.
A career may be created out of the hobby we engage in for amusement, stress relief, and adrenaline boost. Sounds great! This is true in India, where almost two-thirds of serious gamers aspire to pursue a full or part-time job in gaming, according to the HP India Gaming Landscape Report 2022.
Over the past several years, the Indian gaming industry has grown significantly in terms of participation and revenue. India currently has 420 million online players and more than 400 gaming firms, which places it second only to China. One of the reasons for this growth might be also attributed to the pandemic.
Over 2,000 respondents from 14 Indian cities were included in the survey. Indian gamers are now more able to explore a wide range of job opportunities because of the country’s expanding gaming market. The most popular career choice for them is still becoming a gamer, but they are also interested in other careers like influencer or software developer.
Survey Statistics
According to the survey, 33% of gamers prefer gaming as the main career option and 33% consider it to be a part-time career. Among the female respondents, half claimed they were considering a profession in gaming. Only 2% of responders, as per the survey, had formal training in gaming. While the majority of players focus on improving their skills on their own.
32% of players choose to follow a gaming celebrity, in order to advance their abilities. As many as 20 % of respondents wanted to be influencers, 18% preferred to be gaming software developers, 8% chose to be gaming streamers, and 2 % chose the role of animator.
The PC continued to be the most popular gaming device in the second edition of HP‘s Gaming Study in India. As PCs provide superior processor cores, designs, and graphics with immersive screens, an overwhelming 68% of gamers choose them.
Gaming is considered a source of entertainment and relaxation for the majority of them, while half of the respondents considered it to improve mental agility and their socializing skills.
Vickram Bedi, Senior Director, of Personal Systems, HP India market said, “As the gaming industry in India evolves, it is promising to see gaming being considered as a career option”. “The PC gaming landscape in India offers a tremendous opportunity for the youth and we, at HP, are committed to supporting gamers in their journey by providing knowledge, tools, and opportunities to upskill and help them become better at their game”, he added.Â
Rise of women’s participation in the gaming sectorÂ
56 percent of female gamers now view gaming as a full- or part-time career option as the industry becomes more popular. Women today don’t hesitate to identify themselves as gamers. They are steadily making a name for themselves in the gaming sector as well. They are considering a range of possibilities, including gaming, streaming, game developers, and entrepreneurs.
In India, women make up more than 18% of gamers, with young women in particular expected to become ardent players in the future. Additionally, things are improving in the corporate world. The rise in the number of women in head positions at different gaming companies has inspired women to apply for not just executive roles but high-level development roles as well.
