Indian Railways is getting ready to implement new, industry-standard signage, improvised to be more divyang-friendly. The same kind of displays will gradually appear throughout the nation, according to the Indian Railways. The signage at railway stations across India would be harmonized in terms of color, font, and pictograph usage for the comfort of travelers, according to Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Monday.
In India, trains are regarded as the most significant mode of transportation. Every detail, no matter how little or significant, pertaining to these railways is crucial. The Indian Railways made a significant choice with the comfort of station visitors in mind. To make life easier for passengers, the Indian Railways, in the process of renovating 1,275 stations across the country as part of the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,” will attempt to install identical signs at every station.
Indian Railways attempt to install identical signboards
From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, railway stations will now have identical signboards. People will find all the information extremely readily in such a case. Following this, the Indian Railways will take a new step that will allow passengers to see signage in different color forms around the nation, including digital sign boards.
The Indian Railways indicated that signboards at train stations will be correctly erected in the updated style (type, font size, color, backdrop, etc.) to address the flaws of the current system. These standardized sign boards are to be placed in the proper locations at the stations so that a greater number of individuals may view them.
Guidelines for Standard Signage
According to the Guidelines for Standard Signage at Indian Railway Stations, clean typefaces, clearly readable colors, and understandable pictographs are given precedence over complex words. According to a government statement, it has been created with consideration for all passengers’ requirements, particularly those of the ‘divyangjan’, women, children, and the elderly.
For quicker directions, the concept of grouping signs has been adopted. New tricolor backdrop tertiary boards with station names have been added. According to a formal statement, emphasis has been placed on offering clear navigation and having signs available at crucial decision-making locations.
Thorough examinations of major Indian Railway Stations
The ministry added that while uniformity was emphasized, the necessity for flexibility in stations with a strong architectural vocabulary was also acknowledged. According to the brochure, a major Indian railway station has a distinctive configuration and specifications, and a thorough examination may be conducted on an individual basis.
Different colour schemes will be employed for wayfinding of various train kinds and traffic segments, such as MG/BG (metre gauge/broad gauges), local/long distance, EMU/mail express, etc., for the comfort of passengers. The handbook noted that all of the identifying and navigation boards, which are typically white lettering on a dark blue backdrop, may be altered to a colour scheme that is more appropriate for the particular kind of railway or traffic group.
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
The “Amrit Bharat Station” scheme is a new project that the Ministry of Railways has developed for station upgrading. The scheme requires the railway stations to continue growing with an extended outlook. It is based on long-term master planning, with aspects of the plan being implemented in accordance with the demands and usage of the station. The scheme’s main goal will be to provide secure, pleasant, and hygienic rail environments.
Gandhinagar Capital, Rani Kamalapati, and Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal are the three railway stations that have been officially opened. The 1275 stations chosen for the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme build on the knowledge gained from these three stations. These stations are spread across important tourist and pilgrimage destinations as well as major cities. At present, at 88 stations, work is still being done.
