On the first day of the wrestling competition in Birmingham, Indian wrestlers added three more gold medals, bringing their total to six medals.
August 5 was another memorable day for India at Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. On Friday, day 8th of the Commonwealth Games, the Indian contingent grabbed six medals. All of them won by the Indian wrestlers.Â
Friday was the start of the wrestling events, where the Indian side performed as expected. Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, along with young Deepak Punia, won Gold medals. Whereas Anshu Malik won silver, Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewal won bagged the bronze medal.Â
At the Commonwealth Games 2022, Indian athletes have taken home 26 medals, including nine golds, eight silvers, and nine bronze. Men’s Lawn Bowls Fours team guaranteeing a medal for India by defeating England to reach the final was one of the day’s biggest thrills. The India women’s hockey team lost to Australia in the semifinals due to a contentious referee decision and a lacklustre performance by the attackers in the shootout. Manika Batra, a prominent Indian paddler, lost in the event’s quarterfinals, ending her CWG 2022 campaign.
Currently, India is placed at number five on the medal table with the help of wrestlers’ contributions on Day 8. Moreover, Star Badminton PV Sindhu will be in action Today on Day 9 and is expected to sail through. Also, the Indian contingent will look forward to bagging some medals for team India and helping the team jump on the medal table in Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham. Â
