On Thursday, the Indian Hockey team advanced to the knockout stage of the Asia Cup.
The team won by 16-0 points against Indonesia.
Although, India needed 15-0 points to mark their win and to further qualify for Super 4s.
Indian Men’s hockey team banged six goals in the final quarter and recorded 16-0 points.
Ultimately, those points made the Indian team the winner over Indonesia in the Pool A game in Asia Cup 2022 on May 26, 2022.
India was supposed to win the game by margin 15-0 for qualification and the team did play mind-blowing.
By winning, the team India also qualified for the Super 4s because of a better goal difference than Pakistan.
Later the team beat the western neighbour countries which raised hopes for World Cup qualification since only the top three teams were given tickets for the big event.
Hockey – the national game of India
Hockey was popular from 1928 to 1956 and is one of the oldest games in India which is recognised as the Golden Era.
The Indian Hockey Federation was approved back in 1925.
The very first international hockey tour was played in New Zealand by an Indian team.
India continuously won six gold medals at the Olympic games and that is why ‘Hockey’ is considered as the national game of India.
Dhyanchand, pro hockey player who won three gold medals at the Olympics, is considered the father of Indian hockey.
His birthday is celebrated as a National Sports day in India.

1.India (men) 26-0 against Hong Kong, 2018 Asian Games –
The Indian men’s hockey team slammed Hong Kong with a 26-0 margin to record the biggest win in Asian games 2018.
It broke an 86 year old record.
India beat Hong Kong after Rupinderpal Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored a hat-trick each.
Manpreet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Varun Kumar, SV Sunil, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Mandeep Singh, Amit Rohidas, Dilpreet Singh, Chinglensana Singh, Simranjeet Singh and Surender Kumar were the other goal-scorers for India.
2. India (women) 24-0 against Nepal, 2016 South Asian Games –
It was the Indian women’s team who won over Nepal in the 12th South Asian Games.

Strikers Soundarya Yendala (15th, 52nd, 62nd and 64th minutes) and Poonam Barla (7th, 472nd, 43rd and 51st) scored the most with four strikes each. Four players — Rani, Jaspreet Kaur, Neha Goyal and Deepika scored three goals each, while Gurjit Kaur and Preeti Dubey hit the remaining goals for India.
3.India (men) 24-1 against USA, 1932 Olympics
After winning the gold medal in 1928, India won its second consecutive Olympic gold medal against the USA.
Dhyan Chand and Roop Singh poursed so many goals for the team.
Roop Singh scored a staggering 10 goals while Dhyan Chand amassed eight. Gurmit Singh Kullar scored five goals while Eric Pinniger scored the other.
4.India (women) 22-0 against Hong Kong, 1982 Asian Games
The Indian women’s hockey team stunned the audiences by their performance at the Asian Games.
The team scored 37 goals in five group games and they won the silver medal at the competition.
In the men’s competition with Hong Kong, they scored 22-1 in 1954 whereas, the women’s team marked a new record of 22-0 in 1982.
The competition was held at Delhi Shivaji Stadium where ‘N’ number of people witnessed the blockbuster victory by the Indian women’s team.
5.India (men) 22-1 against Hong Kong, 1954
The Indian Men’s hockey team claimed Gold medals in 1952 and 1956 against Hong Kong.
However, the game was not considered as an international sport and wasn’t a part of Asian games.
But, the 22-1 win margin showcased India’s supremacy in Hockey games.
The game got recognised again with full attention when the pro players like Leslie Claudius, Balbir Singh Senior and Udham Singh are in the team.
