On 1st May 2022, Sunday, International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the selection criterion by Badminton World Federation (BWF) for Paris Olympics 2024. The qualification for the Olympics will start on 1 May 2024 and will go on till 8th April 2024.
The total quota for badminton remains at 172 places (86 men and 86 women). This will include 2 host country places and four universality places with 166 regular quota places. Each National Olympic Committee has 8 quotas for men and 8 for women.
The different rules for Singles and Doubles are as follows:
Singles:
In each discipline, if the rank of the player is under the top 16 of the race to Paris the NOC has two places reserved. Apart from this, there are 35 quota places, one host country place and two universality places.
The universality places will be confirmed by the Tripartite Commission after the qualification process. Each single discipline must also have at least two athletes from Continental Confederations provided the player is ranked under top 250.
Doubles:
Two quota places are reserved in NOC for pairs where both the players are ranked under the top 8 on the day of qualification. There should be at least one pair from all the five Continental Confederation if they are ranked under the top 50 on the qualification date.
No NOC can qualify athletes/pairs for more than two disciplines with Continental Representational discipline place.
