World champion Magnus Carlsen has accused Hans Niemann of cheating in his participating chess games. According to Chess.com’s investigation, Niemann has cheated much more than what he acknowledges. Although, there is no proof that the accused has cheated against Carlen or in any other ‘over the board’ games.
Niemann admitted that he cheated in informal games in his young years but denies his involvement in competitive games. The 19 year old player has accused Carlsen and Chess.com as well by saying that they are trying to ruin his built career.Â
Everything started when Niemann defeated Carlsen at the Sinquefield cup last month. Carlsen has also made similar accusations weeks before he went public.
Chess.com has now produced an open investigation of 72 pages into Niemann’s games on the site. The site has claimed that the player has cheated in prize winning competitions and against highly rated ‘well-known’ players in the game.
The report said, “Overall, we have found that Hans has likely cheated in more than 100 online chess games, including several prize money events, he was already 17 when he likely cheated in some of these matches and games. He was also in 25 of these games.”
Carlsen has announced that he will not be playing against the accused. He resigned just after one move of rematch in an online tournament.
Niemann has openly said after the controversy that he is willing to play naked in order to show the world that he is not wearing any devices. The accused said ,”I don’t care, because I know I am clean. You want me to play in a closed box with zero electronic transmission, I don’t care. I’m here to win and that is my goal regardless.”
