iPhone 13 Bring in Reverse Charging Feature

Every year, the entire world’s head turns towards Apple’s launch event, all eager to learn about what latest innovation the company would be incorporating in their luxury line. With the tech-savvy circles buzzing with the speculations of a possible iPhone 13 launch later this year, the guessing game has already begun. And a clear frontrunner amongst the rumoured features is that reverse charging would be introduced in the upcoming edition of the iPhone.

Recently, it was leaker Max Weinbach who brought this news to public scrutiny over the internet that the new iPhone will offer the feature of reverse wireless charging to its devices. He reaffirmed that the makers have decided to start using stronger MagSafe magnets.

They will also include more extensive wireless charging coils to enable this new feature of reverse setting that the Apple iPhone 13 will offer to its users.

According to Weinbach’s report that first appeared on the YouTube page, EverythingApplePro, it is possible that Apple would be using a larger wireless charging coil than the pre-existing one in the upcoming iPhone 13 phone.

For those new to this concept, this technology would allow users to charge all those devices that support wireless charging from their traditional chargers and their iPhones. One could use their iPhone 13 phones to charge their wireless Apple devices like their AirPods by merely putting them on the backside of the smartphones.

The current MagSafe wireless charging system of Apple allows up to 15W of power to be delivered to an iPhone, which is way higher than the power levels of its non-MagSafe contemporaries. With a better MagSafe Magnet on the cards for iPhone 13, it automatically will increase the power from today’s 15W.

A larger coil would provide more space to the area that will be used for wireless charging. Not only this, it can have multiple benefits, like making the iPhone more efficient in handling the heat buildup. It would also increase the phone’s endurance of working on higher wattages without causing any permanent damage to its components.

Moreover, a larger size of the charging coil will allow the iPhone to charge many other devices in a reverse wireless charging mode. Therefore, it doesn’t stop here as this could allow an iPhone to recharge other Apple products, like the AirPods wireless charging case.

Ever since this news broke, the internet has gone ablaze in the fire of theory videos where tech lovers have their say on this prospect. With famous tech experts and data leakers backing the possibility of this feature’s inclusion, it now seems plausible.

However, a while back, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman going against the popular notion, supported the possibility of the feature instead appearing in the next generation of iPads first. These tablet-sized devices would be more compatible with the new MagSafe wireless charging system.

Moreover, this feature might be detrimental to the smartphone’s battery usage. This makes the option of using this technology on a comparatively larger device like an iPad more logical.

This is not the first time that this theory was proposed. For reverse charging has been hinted at time and again for several iPhone models to date.

It was first brought up when iPhone 11 series was releasing as many believed that the technology would debut on iPhones back then. It resurfaced under an FCC filing for the iPhone 12. However, both the iPhone series lacked the proposed feature, now to be brought up again.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 13 should return to its regular release schedule this year. Unlike iPhone 12, whose release was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, we would soon find out what iPhone 13 has to offer without any delay by September.
