On Wednesday, the Lucknow Super Giants announced that Andrew Tye would be the substitute of an injured Mark Wood in the Indian Premier League (IPL)
Lucknow Super Giants, one of the debutant teams of the Indian Premier League(IPL) this year got a blow when their signed pacer Mark Wood got ruled out due to an injury. After his injury, discussions were going on regarding who the Super Giants would sign as Wood’s substitute. On Wednesday, the Lucknow Super Giants franchise signed Andrew Tye as a substitute of the English pacer.
In an official release of IPL 2022 it stated, “Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed Andrew Tye as a replacement for the injured England pacer Mark Wood”. The English pacer had suffered an elbow injury earlier this month during the first test match of England versus West Indies.
The franchise bought the Australian pacer, Andrew Tye for 1 crore rupees. Tye has played previously in the IPL for Gujarat Lions, Kings XI Punjab and in the last season for Rajasthan Royals. In 2018, he won the Purple Cap while playing for Kings XI Punjab for picking 24 wickets in 14 matches.
The right arm pacer, Tye had played for Australia in 32 T20 international matches since his T20 I debut in 2016. He has 47 wickets in his bag so far. The Lucknow Super Giants will make their debut in IPL 2022 against another debutant team Gujarat Titans on March 28. LSG will begin their campaign in the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
