RCB and RR faced off for match 13 on Tuesday in IPL 2022. RCB beat RR by 4 wickets. In the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Royal Challengers Bangalore successfully chased the 170 runs target set by Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.
Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals scored a total of 169 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs batting first after RCB won the toss chose to bowl. After Willey dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the match, Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal, a former RCB player built up a short partnership till Harshal Patel dismissed Padikkal at 37 from 29 balls.
Padikkal’s former captain Virat Kohli took an impressive catch to aid in his dismissal. He had hit two fours and two sixes in his 37 run inning. Captain- Wicket-keeper Sanju Samson was also dismissed early in a simple caught and bowled action from Wanindu Hasaranga.
At 11.4 overs, the Royals were struggling at 86/3 from Hasaranga and Harshal’s bowling attack. By the end of the 16th over, RR was at 107. Shimron Hetmyer and Jos Buttler recovered finally in the 17th and 18th overs in Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj’s overs.
With back to back sixes, Buttler reached 50 in 42 balls finishing at 70 in 47 balls. Hetmyer finished at 42 from 31 balls hitting a six in the last ball of the 20 overs. Buttler was dropped off twice in a single over of Akashdeep.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore (173 for 6) beat Rajasthan Royals (169 for 3) by 4 wickets with 5 balls left. Early on, while defending their total, the match looked good for Rajasthan Royals, especially with Chahal’s exceptional bowling of 2 wickets(Faf du Plessis and Willey) for 15 runs in 4 overs.
He also played his part perfectly helping Sanju Samson in Virat Kohli’s run out at only 5 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal is also a new member of the Rajasthan Royals camp and a former RCB player. Navdeep Saini dismissed Rawat and took Rutherford’s catch in Tent Boult’s over.
RCB was successfully chasing the run at 55 for no loss which quickly changed into 87/5 with the batters struggling. At 87/5 in 12.3 overs, Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed built up a match-winning partnership on Tuesday.
They smashed 67 runs together in 32 balls when Ahmed rained fours and sixes in Trent Boult and Saini’s spell while Karthik hit 7 fours and a six. Karthik smashed Ravi Ashwin in the bowler’s last over who went from 18 in 3 overs to 39 at the end of 4 overs. Karthik had made 44 out of 23 balls and remained not out. Shahbaz had hit 45 out of 26 balls.
After Ahmed’s dismissal, Dinesh Karthik and Harshal Patel saw the match home. Dinesh Karthik was declared the player of the match. RR captain Sanju Samson though disappointed expressed a positive attitude towards gathering experience and learning from the match.
