The ex-CSK skipper will miss the rest of the season due to a rib injury.
Highlights:
· CSK’s premier all-rounder suffered a nasty blow during a fielding mishap vs RCB.
· Jadeja was announced as the captain of CSK in April but stepped down to focus on personal performance.
MUMBAI: CSK announced that ex-skipper Ravindra Jadeja will miss the rest of the tournament due to injury. Rumors of the early exit circulated when he was noticeably absent in the playing XI vs DC. An official CSK release stated that his exit comes after a period of medical observation. Jadeja becomes the second major CSK player to miss IPL2022 after Deepak Chahar.
Jadeja’s Captaincy Woes:
Earlier this year Jadeja was retained for a whopping 16CR before the auctions. Management described him as the “future of CSK” after a dream run in IPL2021. In April, CSK even announced longtime captain MS Dhoni would hand over the captaincy role to Jadeja.
The team got off to a losing streak much like their main rivals Mumbai Indians. As the second phase of the league stage approached, Jadeja stepped down as captain to focus on personal form. The stalwart franchise went back to winning ways under returning captain MS Dhoni. While the team has recovered well from the poor run, Jadeja’s batting form stayed concerning.
With the bat, the all-rounder has only tallied 116 runs in 10 games, and just 5 wickets with the ball.
What’s Next?:
With two core members ruled out for the season: Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja, CSK will have to get crafty with their manpower. Shivam Dube and Rajvardhan Hangargekar are two Indian all-rounders MS Dhoni has to choose from. With Shivam Dube in terrific batting form, it is unlikely that the team will stray from a winning combination.
CSK sits in 9th place on the IPL table, one above their longtime rivals MI. The team will hope to win the remaining matches at a decent run rate to climb into the top 4.
