Jamshed J Irani, recognized as the steelman of India, expired in Jamshedpur late Monday night, Tata Steel Company announced. He was 85 years old.

Jamshed J Irani: 1- Jamshed Jiji Irani born on 2 June 1936 and passed away on 31 October 2022 was an Indian tycoon. 2- Educated in Metallurgy, he connects with the British Iron and Steel Research Association. 3- Later he united with Tata Steel from which he retired in 2007 as the Director. 4- Later he performed on the committees of several Tata group corporations and others. 5- He earned the Padma Bhushan in 2007. 6- Dr. Irani obtained his BSc from Science College, Nagpur in 1956 and his MSc in Geology from Nagpur College in 1958. 7- He then moved to the University of Sheffield in the UK as a J N Tata scholar, where he earned a Master’s in Metallurgy in 1960, and a Ph.D. in Metallurgy in 1963. |
He commenced his proficient career with the British Iron and Steel Research Association in Sheffield in 1963 but always wanted to contribute to the Nation’s advancement. He returned to India to unite The Tata Iron and Steel Company (now Tata Steel), as it was then recognized, in 1968 and united the company as Assistant to the Director in charge of Analysis and Development.
He went on to evolve as General Superintendent in 1978, General Manager in 1979, and President of Tata Steel in 1985. He evolved as Joint Managing Director of Tata Steel in 1988, and Managing Director in 1992, before retiring in 2011.
He united the committee of Tata Steel in 1981 and was also a Non-Executive Director from 2001 for a decade. Moreover Tata Steel and Tata Sons, Dr. Irani also performed as a Director of numerous Tata Group corporations, comprising Tata Motors and Tata Teleservices. Irani lived with his wife Daisy Irani and his three children, Zubin, Niloufer, and Tanaaz.
