The acquisition of Mimosa Networks by Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd.’s Indian conglomerate, would cost $60 million and will help Jio Platforms’ rapidly growing 5G and internet offerings
The agreement is between Mimosa’s owner, US-based Airspan Networks Holdings, and Radisys Corp, a division of Jio Platforms.
The company, through Jio, is expanding 5G and broadband services throughout the nation after purchasing airwaves worth $11 billion in a 5G spectrum auction last year. Jio is India’s top telecom service provider.
According to the statement, Reliance Jio Infocomm USA, a division of Jio, is a shareholder in Airspan and holds a seat on its board.
Reliance has made substantial investments in the telecom industry and last year selected Nokia (NOKIA.HE) as a significant supplier to build next-generation wireless services throughout India.
The Mimosa agreement also comes at a time when certain governments, including India, have prohibited or discouraged the use of Huawei products in their national networks.
Matthew Oommen, the President of Jio, commented on the acquisition stated that it would enhance Jio’s advancements and dominance in creating telecom network products that provide value to customers and businesses worldwide. The purchase of Mimosa would enable Jio to deliver cost-effective and easily deployable fixed and mobile broadband solutions.
According to the statement, the deal is anticipated to close in the third quarter of 2024, subject to a few regulatory and customary closing conditions as well as senior lender clearance.
After the acquisition of Mimosa by Radisys, the company’s teams involved in product development, manufacturing, and sales, consisting of 56 individuals, will remain part of the company. Airspan will also continue to offer Mimosa products to some of its customers and maintain a reseller channel for specific projects related to joint 4G/5G and fixed wireless access.
Mimosaās acquisition by Airspan
In 2018, Airspan acquired Mimosa intending to concentrate on providing economical fixed wireless access network connections. The company offers a variety of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint solutions, as well as accessories such as twist-on antennas and PoE Injectors, based on both WiFi 5 and the more recent WiFi 6E technologies. These systems are relevant for fulfilling the backhaul requirements of 5G and FTTX/FWA rollouts. Jio has been a noteworthy customer of Mimosa’s.
