KAMAL HASSAN TO BE FELICITATED AT IIFA 2024
Kamal Haasan, a prominent politician and one of the most esteemed actors in the Indian entertainment industry, is set to be felicitated at the IIFA 2024 awards. Although he primarily works in Tamil cinema, Haasan has also made notable contributions to Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali films. Renowned for his exceptional performances in movies like ‘Vikram,’ ‘Indian,’ and ‘Mahanadi,’ Haasan has rightfully earned the status of a living legend.
His remarkable filmography includes memorable works such as ‘Nayagan,’ ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye,’ ‘Apoorva Sagodharargal,’ ‘Gunaa,’ ‘Virumandi,’ ‘Aalavandhan,’ and ‘Anbe Sivam,’ among others.
Haasan embarked on his acting journey at the tender age of six, making his debut in the 1960s film ‘Kalathur Kannamma,’ a remarkable achievement that earned him the President’s Gold Medal. Throughout his career, he has received several accolades, including four National Awards. One of these prestigious honors was for his compassionate portrayal of a school teacher in the 1982 Tamil film ‘Moondram Pirai.’ The movie revolves around his character’s selfless dedication to a young woman suffering from retrograde amnesia, leading to a heart-wrenching outcome. Later, the film was remade in Hindi as ‘Sadma,’ garnering further acclaim.
Expressing his gratitude and excitement, Haasan stated, ‘I am extremely honored and grateful that I have been a part of many IIFAs, and they are doing a great job promoting Indian cinema globally. This time, I am being honored at IIFA 2024 at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. I am excited to be present at the event.’
THE INTERNATIONAL INDIAN FILM ACADEMY AWARDS
The International Indian Film Academy Awards, widely known as IIFA, is an annual awards ceremony that celebrates Bollywood. Organized by Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the winners are determined through online voting by fans of the Hindi film industry. Established in 2000, the ceremony takes place in different countries each year, showcasing the global reach of Indian cinema.
The IIFA Utsavam is the segment dedicated to South Indian cinema within the annual IIFA Awards. Introduced in 2016, the awards recognize outstanding contributions to films released in the previous year. The inaugural IIFA Utsavam was held at the Gachibowli Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad, India.
Sobha IIFA Weekend and NEXA Awards, in collaboration with Miral and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), will be the platform to honor Kamal Haasan, along with actor couple Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza for their ‘Outstanding Achievement in Regional Cinema.’ Additionally, renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra will be recognized for his ‘Outstanding Achievement in Fashion in Cinema.’
The highly anticipated main awards night, hosted by Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kaushal, is scheduled for May 27 in Abu Dhabi.
Preceding the main event, the dazzling IIFA Rocks will take place on May 26, featuring a fashion show where Manish Malhotra will present his exceptional collection, merging an ‘old world charm meets the new world’ aesthetic. The NEXA Awards will follow on May 27, concluding the Sobha IIFA Weekend.
