Kamaljeet added 2 more gold medals and helped India to win by bagging the team honor as well as individual 50-meter pistol event as ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation’s) Changwon Junior World Championship Concluded.
The Changwon Junior World Championship was held in Changwon, South Korea, on Monday July 24th, 2024. Kamaljeet, during the trails of national level impressed everyone by winning top stop in air pistol that to ahead of the World Cup gold medallist Sarabjot Singh.
India finished the championship by being second behind China by bagging total number of 17 medals for the country, which was 6 gold medals, six silver medals and five bronze medals. Whereas China came on top by bagging 12 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze medals.
Kamaljeet shot 544 / 600 in individual 50-meter pistol event and left Uzbek Veniamin Nikitin behind in second position whereas, he scored 542. Kamaljeet won by 2 points. On the other hand, bronze medal was won by Korean player named Kim Taemin with 541 points.
Kamaljeet also helped the team to win another gold medal for India. He joined hands with shooters such as Sandeep Bishnoi and Ankait Tomar for the team to win gold medal by scoring the total of 1617. Silver medal was secured by Uzbekistan again by scoring the total of 1613, while the third places was again secured by South Korea with the total of 1600.
Whereas silver medal was won by an Indian player Tiyana Phogat in the women’s free pistol. She won silver by being one point behind Khanna Aliyeva of Azerbaijan who won gold medal. And for women’s free pistol there was no team to help win India gold medal.
India went with the numbers of 90 shooters for 2024 Junior World Championship is the largest number, Whereas Korean’s went with the squad of 66 and the USA had 43 shooters in the competition. It was the third edition of the Junior World Championship and the shooters participated was for medals in pistol, shotgun and rifle competition who were under 21 age categories.
Over 550 shooters were present for competing with each other in ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation’s) Junior World Championship from 44 countries.
Darshna Rathore, 16 years old girl, an ISSF bronze medallist, is a part of Indian squad and will be competing in the women’s trap event. India won 43 medals in which includes 17 gold medals, which had topped the medals tally in the last Junior World Championship which was held in Lima, Peru, in 2021.
The ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation’s) now will be moving forward with the biggest event of the year, which is the senior world championships, which is set to begin in Baku, Azerbaijan, from August 14th, 2024.
