Karnataka’s Health Minister, Dr. K Sudhakar Announced on 18th May (Wednesday) that they will be opening a mental health telephone helpline for students who are going under stress and are waiting for their SSLC results on the 19th of May.
This is the first step that the Karnataka government has taken on an issue that is important to the young generation of today. He urged the students expecting their results to not lose their hope at any cost. He wishes them all the best and the ones who do not clear it should not feel disheartened, as this is not the end of the road for them as it is just the outcome of one’s academic life. He adds that success and failure are a part of life.
He urges the students to use the helpline at 080 4611 0007 If they’re feeling low, distressed, anxious, or scared. Dr. Jini K Gopinath, who is the chief psychology officer at yourDOST which is an online counseling and emotional support platform designed to foster mental illness says that we helpline seems to be largely active during class 10th and 12th result as the students are stressed about making their upcoming life decision depending on their marks obtained in the examinations.
The helpline will help children see the world from a different perspective and will have a huge impact on their confidence and will cheer them up if they’re feeling low. It will feel like reducing your pressure while talking to a person who can help you sail through this difficult phase.
This year the SSLC exam record a huge number of students being absent in Karnataka after they decided to go on a mass bunk. they feared that they will fail the exam due to the change in its pattern. The question paper did not have multiple-choice questions like last year but had regular questions which make them more anxious about the result.
The hijab ban may also be a contributor to the list of absentees for the exam. The Karnataka government officials said that “the students have gone on a mass bunk this year as the state government did not offer the ‘pass every student’ rule as it did last year.” Many students registered for the exam but got nervous at the last second and decided to skip the exam After they got to know that the government will not be passing everyone this year as the prior year. plus, the pressure of the exams not being multiple-choice questions resulted in them going on a mass bunk.
The youth of today keeps a lot in their head which leads them into procrastinating scenarios making them anxious and depressed in a result, using this helpline started by the Karnataka government they will have a platform where they can go and share their distress with a professional who can guide them the correct way.
