Even as the “Boycott halal items” campaign by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal increased in the state, five Bajrang Dal workers were detained in the Shivamogga district in Karnataka. Government chief minister Basavaraj Bommai called for a peaceful celebration of Hindu new year Ugadi and ‘Hosa Tadaku’ celebrations.
When Hosa Tadaku is celebrated, Hindus who Favour non-vegetarian meals grill beef and fowl. According to right-wing activists, the Hindus should avoid buying the meat since it has been sacrificed to Allah by Muslim devotees, which is disrespectful to Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
There were two incidences reported in Bhadrawati town in Hosamane and old town on Thursday, Shivamogga Superintendent of Police B M Lakshmi Prasad informed reporters on Friday.
Five persons went to a store within the Hosamane police station boundaries and requested non-halal meat. The store was shuttered since it was not available. He said that they assaulted a child in the shop with their hands on his head.
Another incident with individuals going to the Janata Hotel and demanding that the proprietor stop selling halal meat was reported to the police station in the old town. According to the police, a client was beaten when he inquired about his purchase.
The same person has been charged in both incidents. There is a criminal investigation in progress against them, and they’ve been taken into custody. Vasu, Srikanth, Krishna, Sawai, and Gunda are the members of this merry band of misfits, Soprano Prasad made the statement below.
Local authorities have been instructed by the Chief Minister in Bengaluru. He urged the police chiefs and deputy police chiefs of every area to ensure that people may enjoy their religious and cultural traditions without disrupting public safety. Hindu organizations also took to the streets on Saturday, urging Hindus to only consume ‘jhatka meat,’ which refers to the practice of murdering an animal by shocking it, in order to minimize the pain of the sacrificed animal.
The protesters have teamed up with Hindu meat merchants and put up ‘100% jhatka certified’ signboards on the businesses. Hindu activists have even provided a 10% discount and free home delivery on meat purchases over Rs 200 in the eight-kilometer area around the store.
Outside temples, the campaigners distributed Ugadi prasad and appealed to devotees not to consume any halal products, particularly during the festival of ‘Hosa Tadaku.’ Shashikala Jolle, India’s Minister of Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment defended the Hindu groups’ actions.
In coastal Karnataka, the problem of halal and non-halal food is even more common than in the rest of the state. these pro-Hindu groups appear to be doing the right thing to her. To honor God, they are educating people about the ‘jhatka cut’ of the animal. These organizations have her support, Jolle informed the media.
