Kolkata Knight Riders won their fourth match of the season by defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets, ending a five-match losing streak. Â
After the bowlers performed well to restrict Rajasthan to just 153 runs, Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana created a nice framework for an easy finish on Monday (May 2). KKR kept their season alive with the win, while RR lost for the second time in a row but remained in third place in the standings.Â
Ordinary StartÂ
It was their fifth opening combination this season, with KKR excluding Venkatesh Iyer due to his string of defeats. Â
The opening two could only contribute 16 runs before Kuldeep Sen nabbed Aaron Finch for another cheap run. Â
Trent Boult was stingy with his three overs in the powerplay, allowing only 14 runs and keeping the KKR hitters at bay. As KKR finished the first six at 32/2, Prasidh Krishna continued to strike in the powerplay with Baba Indrajith’s wicket.Â
A good Middle PhaseÂ
Shreyas Iyer returned to the crease and established a fifty-run stand with Nitish Rana at No.4 to get the chase back on track. Â
In the 11th over, which yielded 16 runs, Shreyas used his feet brilliantly against Yuzvendra Chahal’s leg-spin, while Rana went after R Ashwin.Â
Samson rotated his bowlers well, and Shreyas attempted to pull a short ball down leg in Boult’s final over that had a little glove. Â
The spike on replays snapped the 60-run stand that came from 43 balls, according to Samson. The skipper scored 34 points out of a possible 32.Â
Rinku & Rana Â
KKR broke their losing streak thanks to Rinku Singh’s unbeaten 42 off 23. Rinku Singh’s punches near the end helped KKR stop their losing streak. Rana made the most of his start, hanging on at the other end with an unbroken 48 off 36. Â
He had a great day in the field earlier in the day and carried that confidence into the chase, smashing six fours and a six while adding 66 runs for the fourth wicket with Rana. Â
He played a number of spectacular strokes, but his favourite was the whip to cow corner in the last over from Prasidh Krishna to the boundary.Â
Chahal, who took five wickets in the previous match between these two teams, including a hat-trick, returned zero wickets tonight as RR’s spin combo went wicketless.Â
