Lakshay, Kidambi, and Prannoy progressed to the second round of the BWF World Championships. However, B Sai Praneeth lost to Chou Tien Chen.
Lakshya Sen continued his outstanding run on Monday. He defeated Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark in straight games.
Sen advanced to the men’s singles Round 2 at the 2022 BWF World Championships in Tokyo. India also won the women’s and mixed doubles categories on the first day.
Men Singles
Sen, 20, defeated an inexperienced Vittinghus 21-12, 21-11 in his first match. Kidambi Srikanth of India defeated Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in a match in a row. The silver medalist from last year won by a score of 22-20, 21-19 in 51 minutes.
Indian senior shuttler Prannoy H.S. was one of the winners. He defeated Austrian Luka Wraber by scores of 21-12, 21-11 to go to the next round. Viktor Axelsen, the top seed, defeated Malaysian Daren Liew by a score of 21-16, 21-12.Â
However, Anders Antonsen of Denmark suffered a shocking loss to Kenta Nishimoto, falling to him by scores of 21-15, 21-19.
B Sai Praneeth bowed out early in the championships. He lost in three games against world number four Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen in their first-round matchup. The Chinese Taipei shuttler was too powerful and prevailed with a score of 21-15, 15-21, and 21-15.
After his failures in the Olympic Games held in the same place last year, Praneeth had yet another forgettable appearance in the capital of Japan. He had competed without a qualified coach or physiotherapist and was eliminated early.Â
