As per a report, the gang had the name of Karan Johar on their targeted extortion list and was reportedly being targeted for Rs 5 crore.

An alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang, Siddhesh Kamble AKA Mahakal, opened up to investigators and disclosed that Filmmaker was on the gang’s list of extortion and planned to extort over Rs 5 crore. A senior official told the news agency PTI that none of the claims made until now had been verified and speculated that Siddhesh was bragging while giving his statements. He was a close confidante of Santosh Jadhav, the shooter suspected to be the shooter in singer Siddhu Moosewala’s death, as per the police official.
As per the official reports, the gang had allegedly devised a plan to extort a total of Rs 5 crores by threatening him. He gave his statements to the police according to which, the arrested had conversations regarding the plan on Signal and Instagram with Vikram Brar, brother of gangster Goldie Brar, based in Canada. Siddhesh also disclosed information about the Siddhu murder conspiracy and told the police that Nagnath Suryavanshi and Santosh were involved in the murder.
With some accused, there is an element of bragging in their confessions. The motive behind bragging is to gain publicity and get bigger extortion amounts. This phenomenon is common in Punjab and other neighboring states. They (gangsters) want their names to get associated with high-profile cases. Mahakal is a small fish. Vikram Brar told him about Karan Johar. Why Brar told this to Mahakal, who is just a foot soldier? Because Brar wants to increase his clout and impress youths like Mahakal.

Early this June, actor Salman Khan and his father Salim Khan were victims of a death threat. A letter was discovered outside their home in Mumbai by their security team, near the Bandra Bandstand promenade, the place where Salim Khan goes routinely for his morning jog every day. Later, Maharashtra Home Department was quoted by the PTI, “The gang was preparing to extort money from big businessmen and actors.”
