Some ads are so ridiculous these days that they stick with you for a long time. We have one with us who will undoubtedly do so. So, advertisements for a Layer Shot body spray brand has risen in popularity on social media for all the wrong reasons. The advertisement’s video has gone viral online, with some alleging it promotes rape culture.
Monika Manchanda shared the now-viral video on Twitter, Layer’r Shot, a body spray brand, was featured in the promo.Â

It all started with a girl and a boy in a room when his friends barged in. “Hey bro, shoot maara,” says the narrator. (Hey, dude, did you hit a shot?) “one of the lads inquires.” The boy responds, “Haan maara” (Yes, I did).”
Another user replied to the Monika’s tweet which is showcasing
One of the ads depicts four men debating who gets the “shot” on the final remaining bottle of perfume, but the bottle is replaced with a lady.
Several users on social media criticised the ads of being provocative and of trivialising sexual violence againstwomen.
Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), filed a letter to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur about the advertisement, requesting action, and also issued a notice to the Delhi Police. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has told the campaign to stop, and they are looking into the advertising code right now.
Rule 3(1)(b)(ii) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 says that the ads don’t follow the rules.
The government ask to YouTube and twitter to remove these videos, also not to host such videos in future as well.
