Peyush Bansal, founder & CEO of Lenskart India and a judge on Shark Tank India, faced backlash from the CA fraternity across the nation. Here is the story.
On the January 9 episode of Shark Tank India, an Indian Business reality television Series, a contestant said that he has CAs in his startup who advise him regarding strategies in the business. Peyush Bansal bluntly mocked them by saying, “CA kya guide karte hain”.
Later in the show, Bansal advising the contestant, said, “CA se door rehna”. The statement instantly went viral, resulting in backlash from the CA community across the nation.
Professionals & students of the CA fraternity demanded an apology.
CAs play a crucial role in every corporation. Lakhs of students around the nation aspire to become CA. It takes years of hard work, consistency & discipline to be a Chartered Accountant. CA course worldwide is known as one of the toughest professional courses.
The comment which Mr Peyush Bansal made is derogatory from every perspective. In fact, there are many CAs in India who are successful Investors, Businessmen.
Famous Investors like Rakesh Jhunjhunwala hold a CA Degree. CA professionals like Motilal Oswal have created brands in the field of finance. There are people like Deepak Parekh who are leading corporations like HDFC.
Finally, on January 10, Peyush Bansal, on his official Twitter handle, posted an apology letter saying he didn’t intend to disrespect the CA community. He also said that his Father & his sister (who is also co-founder of his business) both are CA. Along with that, he also admitted that his choice of words was wrong and no business can function without Chartered Accountants.
