Two men named Kuppasami and Vivek died after allegedly consuming liquor at a bar in
Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district
On Sunday, Two men named Kuppasami and Vivek died after allegedly consuming liquor at a government bar in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district. This incident occurred shortly after 22 people were died in the same area due to the alleged consumption of industrial methanol.
A forensic analysis of samples collected from the bodies of the deceased men, has revealed the presence of cyanide. This analysis has ruled out the possibility of methanol, which is a highly toxic substance often used by illicit brewers. Methanol resembles alcohol in terms of its odor.
The presence of cyanide suggests that the liquor consumed by Kuppasami and Vivek might have been contaminated with this deadly chemical. Cyanide is a compound that is highly toxic that can cause severe health complications and even death when ingested.
it has been reported that the police are currently investigating whether the deaths of Kuppasami and Vivek were a result of suicide or murder. Thanjavur Collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver made this statement, indicating that the circumstances surrounding their deaths are still under investigation.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that the bar where the two men allegedly consumed liquor had violated regulations. The bar reportedly served alcohol even before the liquor shop officially opened at 12 PM. This confirms allegations made by the opposition that bars in the area engage in illegal sale of liquor, disregarding the established rules and regulations.
Public’s Reaction
officials who arrived at the scene to collect samples and determine if the liquor was
poisonous faced the wrath of angry protestors. The crowd, holding the officials accountable for the incident, attempted to lock them inside the bar as a form of protest. However, the police intervened to rescue the officials and to pacify the public’s anger. Law enforcement
assured the crowd that action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.
Opposition’s Reaction
The opposition in Tamil Nadu has strongly criticised the government, accusing it of incompetence. AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) chief EPS (Edappadi K. Palaniswami) has been particularly vocal in his criticism and has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.
Response of The police
In response to the incident, the police have formed three to four special teams to conduct a thorough investigation. These teams are tasked with gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
As part of the investigation, the liquor bottles from the bar have been seized as potential evidence. Additionally, the Revenue Department officials have sealed the bar, preventing any further operations.
Thanjavur Collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver, in his capacity, has personally inspected the liquor outlet, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the need for a comprehensive assessment.
These deaths come in the wake of recent crackdowns by the police on illicit arrack (a local alcoholic beverage) production and bootlegging in Thanjavur and other districts within the central zone.
The authorities conducted extensive raids over a period of three days, resulting in the booking of 149 cases in Thanjavur district.
This incident highlights the dangers of consuming adulterated or illicitly produced liquor, as it can contain harmful substances that pose a serious threat to human health. It also underscores the importance of strict regulations and enforcement to prevent the production and distribution of such hazardous substances in the market.
