On Tuesday, ICC decided to select Lord’s as the next venue for the World Test Championship final. The Lord’s will be hosting consecutive world test championship finals.Â
ICC have confirmed that Lord’s will be hosting the following two editions of the Test championship finals scheduled for 2024 and 2025, respectively. Earlier in 2021, the inaugural edition was also supposed to be held in Lord’s. Although, due to covid restrictions imposed by the UK government in 2021, the finals had to be shifted to the Rose Bowl in Southampton.Â
The first edition of the test championship finals happened between India and New Zealand, where the kiwis defeated the men in blue by eight wickets.Â
The home of cricket is an unparalleled venue for test cricket. It has been hosting major tournaments since the beginning of cricket history. The beauty of the Lord’s is indescribable, and the addition of these tournaments has added excitement to fans’ minds.Â
The WTC (World Test Championship) runs in a format of a two-year cycle, where all the major red-ball nations participate. All countries play 6 test series, which include three home series and three away tour series. After that, only two teams qualify in the decided venue for the finals according to the points table.
Currently, India is placed in 4th position on the points table. However, team India would be looking to improve their rankings in order to qualify for the finals. Moreover, South Africa and Australia are at the top of the charts and are looking like prominent contenders for the 2024 edition finalists.Â
In the meantime, Ganguly’s ICC Men’s Cricket Committee now includes former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and former India batter VVS Laxman. Laxman and Vettori were added to the committee as current player representatives, and Roger Harper, a former West Indies all-rounder, was appointed as a past player representative.
