The Super Giants emerged victorious in a monumental chase of 211 in which Evin Lewis’ played an unbeaten innings of 55 runs not out in 23 balls, leading LSG to their first victory of the season. The LSG made one change from their previous game – Mohsin Khan was replaced by Andrew Tye in the eleven.
With a gigantic score of 211 runs to chase, LSG openers started on a confident note. The chase was opened by De Kock and skipper KL Rahul. They both hit some herculean hits. Many boundaries came as the 50 partnership was up for the opening wicket and de Kock would have been declared out if Moeen Ali hadn’t dropped that catch inside the circle in the 6th over as LSG were placed at 55/0 at the end of the powerplay.
Rahul smacked a maximum to bring up the 100th six of the IPL season. The batters were smashing at least 10 runs per over with the runs flooding in easily. De Kock made a half-century in the tenth over, bowled by Bravo, and hit 8 runs. LSG was at an immaculate score of 98 runs at the expense of 0 wickets after half the innings!
Hopefully for CSK, Dwaine Pretorius brought the team back into the game by dismissing the LSG skipper, who was caught by a running catch in the deep by Rayudu. Manish Pandey got out next as he was caught mid-off by Bravo off Tushar Deshpande’s bowling.
After a temporary slump in run-scoring, LSG struck 15 off the 14th over, courtesy of Evin Lewis’ six and a four but CSK got the all-important wicket of de Kock. After de Kock’s wicket, Deepak Hooda joined the game to for a duo with Evin Lewis and the two collectively smacked 2 sixes and 3 fours before Dwayne Bravo dismissed Hooda as he became the all-time leading wicket taker in Indian Premier League.
LSG now needed 34 runs and only 2 overs were left. Evin Lewis and young Ayush Badoni smashed 25 runs in the 19th over which included two sixes and two fours. Ayush Badoni sealed the chase in a smug shot that led LSG to their first ever victory.
