With three wickets to his credit, Krunal helped Lucknow defeat Mumbai by 36 runs in the last over, including Pollard’s.
While Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard may be good or even great friends off the field, the competitiveness of the Indian Premier League means that most friendships are put on hold on match days, as is the case with most players in the IPL.
Krunal Pandya seemed to have missed the message, as he pulled Kieron Pollard off the field in the last over of the Mumbai Indians vs. Lucknow Super Giants game and then jumped on Pollard’s back to kiss him on the head.
Even though Pollard was supposed to get a friendly send-off from his former teammate, he did not seem to be in the mood for any joking around and instead chose to walk away without saying anything further. Even India’s icon Sunil Gavaskar said during the game’s commentary that the gesture was inappropriate since the game was still in progress.
As a result of his three wickets, including Pollard’s in the last over, Krunal was useful in encouraging Lucknow to a 36-run win against a battling Mumbai team.
Mumbai, who were chasing 168 at Wankhede, fell apart at the last wicket and suffered an eighth consecutive loss. Meanwhile, Lucknow captain KL Rahul scored his second hundreds of the season on Sunday, leading his side to a total of 168 for 6. Rahul’s 103 not out of 62 balls, which included 12 fours and four sixes, was his second hundred against the same opponent this season.
Quinton de Kock was the second-highest scorer with 22 points, with the rest of the hitters struggling to make a significant impact. Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful bowler for MI, taking 1 for 31 in four overs, while Kieron Pollard had the highest statistics, taking 2 for 8 in two overs.
