With a suspenseful five-wicket victory over India in the Men’s T20 World Cup, South Africa ascended to the top of Group 2.
South Africa leads with five points after their first loss by five wickets in the T20 World Cup, thanks to rain from Ngidi, Makram, and Miller.
Miller has the demeanour of a cucumber. With this victory, South Africa takes the top spot in the points standings. By limiting a potent Indian lineup to 133 runs, their pacers provided the foundation with the bat.
With the exception of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian batters had trouble getting going. Many believed that the Proteas chase would be simple, but the Indian bowlers had other plans. The Indians applied pressure to their opponents with swing, much like how the South African pacers did with pace and bounce.
In his very first over, Arshdeep bowled brilliantly, removing QdK and Rossouw with an outswinger and an inswinger, respectively. The new-ball bowlers were supported by Shami and Hardik’s methodical bowling.
The score was 40/3 at the midway point, and the asking rate was higher than 9 RPO. Immediately after the beverage break, Markram and Miller raised the stakes. The former received a few reprieves, and he profited by making a fifty.
Hardik was able to end the partnership, but in the final over, “Killer Miller” picked the perfect bowlers to attack at the right time to help his team win. Despite a valiant effort from the bowlers, India’s hitters and fielders fell short.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Outstanding Knock
Suryakumar Yadav delivered a fantastic and valuable 68-run innings against South Africa. Team India’s score reached 130 after this innings. When 49 runs had been completed and half of the team had returned, he assumed that he had to take control of the group.
Suryakumar launched a daring counterattack with six fours and four sixes, but he kept running out of partners. Rohit finished second with 15 points.
After that, he and Dinesh Karthik contributed 52 runs for the sixth wicket. Karthik only got 6 runs in these 52, which was another unique feature. He was the sole contributor to the team’s improved score. After 9 wickets were lost, no other batsmen could reach double digits except from Rohit 15, Kohli 12, and Surya 68.
This was Surya’s ninth 50+ score this year. Suryakumar Yadav, who has eight half-centuries and a century, is the 2022 season’s leading run-scorer for India vs South Africa.
Brilliant Ngidi
Lungi Ngidi was named the game’s MVP. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s powerful 68 off 40 balls, the Proteas were able to hold India to 133-9 thanks in large part to Lungi Ngidi’s 4-29 performance.
When games are that close, it may be quite nerve-wracking for the bowler because there isn’t much he can do but to trust his teammates. One of my fondest ambitions would be to receive an honour like this at the World Cup and contribute to my nation’s victory. I would treasure this moment for a very long time, said Lungi Ngidi.
The inability of the top-order batsmen to adapt to the fast and bumpy Optus Stadium ground was the primary factor in India’s defeat. As off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin let up 43 runs in his four overs, India was missing a fifth fast bowler.
South Africa lost three wickets for 24 runs while attempting to score 134 runs, but Markram (52 off 41 balls, six fours, one six) and Miller came next (59 not out off 46 balls, three fours, three fours). Sixers) contributed a crucial 76-run fourth-wicket stand to get his team to 137 for five in 19.4 overs.
Temba Bavuma Words Post Match
(At the 10-over point) The talk was on trying to increase the intent. Opportunities will present themselves to you when you act in that way. Thankfully, everything turned out in our favour, and we were able to build up that momentum. Except for myself, the rest of our batting order is strong.
A batting group that has been working together for some time. To deliver under pressure will increase the guys’ confidence. We chose the lengths after observing the games being played here. We were helped by the varying bounce. Fortunately, our execution, which we had endorsed, was successful. We don’t like the label of favourites because we didn’t enter the competition as the favourites. We’ll continue to operate covertly. We need to keep becoming better, and we are doing just that.
India has never been defeated by South Africa in an ICC competition. In T20 in 2022, David Miller triumphed in the run chase. He won with an average of 280.50 and an SR of 154 while leaving 14 runners on base in 16 innings.
