According to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then-prime minister of India, Madhya Pradesh is the nation’s heartland. Madhya Pradesh entered its current form on November 1st, 1956, however its internal regions kept shifting. Nevertheless, Chhattisgarh was divided on the same day in the year 2000.
How did it come to the map?
Madhya Pradesh has had a different image from 1947 and just before 1 November 1956 because it didn’t exist. The country was partitioned into four sections in 1947. These four divisions correspond to Madhya Pradesh: Part A, Central Province and Barar (capital: Nagpur); Part B, Madhya Bharat (capitals: Indore, Gwalior); and Part C, Vindhya Bharat (capital: Rewa) and Bhopal State (Capital- Bhopal).
With the increase in demand for the linguistic reform of States. The Dhar Commission and JVP Committee were established by the government in 1948 to investigate the situation, but both groups rejected the need for it as ludicrous and rejected language as a foundation for the creation of separate republics. However, after Potti Sriramulu went on a hunger strike and passed away, the government established the Fazl Ali commission to look into the request to make language a requirement for the creation of States. Language can be a requirement for founding a state, but it cannot be the only one, according to the Fazl Ali Commission’s 1955 report. The four-fold classification of states was eliminated, and as a result of the State Reorganisation Act of 1956 and the Seventh Constitutional Amendment Act of 1956, there were 16 States (including Madhya Pradesh) and 3 Union Territories.
Chhattisgarh separated from Madhya Pradesh on November 1st, 2000, and became a new State. And Madhya Pradesh’s current political boundaries are solely based on that.
