South-Indian actor, Dhanush has been summoned by Madras court in connection to an old paternity case. A few years ago, in 2016, this controversy made numerous headlines after an elderly claimed Dhanush to be their biological child.
Old Couple’s Petition
Kathiresan and Meenakshi, the old couple, filed a petition in 2016 in the magistrate’s court in Melur. The petition filed in Madurai district in Tamil Nadu claimed that the south-Indian actor was their third child.
The petition also said that the actor ran away from home to chase his calling for acting when he was a teenager.
They submitted to the court that the actor was an underage student attending school in Melur when he had run away. They knew he had run away to Chennai, chasing his dreams of acting in movies, but they couldn’t find him.
The old couple recognised him as their third son after watching his movies, but their efforts to meet him failed. They stated in court that their financial situation is dire and that they seek a monthly maintenance payment of 65,000.
Case Chronology
The South-Indian actor Dhanush won the case in his favour in 2017 and the Madras HC dismissed the couple’s petition.
Then, Kathiresan, the elderly man filed an appeal in court to invalidate the 2020 order. The order was the court’s dismissal of the case on the grounds that there weren’t any supportive documents in proving the forgery of the paternity test.
The case went to Madras High Court, where the court suggested both parties participate in a paternity test. However, this suggestion by the Madras High Court was declined by the lawyers for the South Indian actor Dhanush.
Although the actor had taken an identification medical examination for marks, the results were indeterminate.
Dhanush’s Stand
The actor has said that the Tamil film director Kasthuri Raja and his wife, Vijayalaxmi, are his birth parents. The South-Indian actor, Dhanush, also rejected all the claims made by the couple, dismissing all the rumours in the media.
