On Tuesday, the Marathi actor and director was granted protection against arrest by the Bombay High Court for three weeks. Along with Mahesh, the producers of the film “Varan Bhaat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha” were granted protection too. All the names are involved in a case of obscenity against the minors.
The division bench consisting of justices PB Varale and SP Tavade was hearing a criminal petition filed by Manjrekar and others seeking to quash an FIR against them filed on February 24. The FIR was made under the Indian Penal Code, The Indecent Representation of Women, Section 13, which pertains to the use of children for pornographic purposes, belonging to the Protection of the Children from the Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the Information Technology Act.
The plea mentions that the FIR filed against the named people involves a part of the trailer containing obscenity scenes with minors. However, the trailer has been taken down from all the social media platforms, and the filmmakers have assured that there is no such objectional scenes or material in the film involving minors.
This case started on 25 January 2022 when an application was filed with the special POCSO (the Protection of the Children from Sexual Offences Act) court by Seema Deshpande, city president of NGO-
Bharatiya Stree Shakti, which is known for representing issues concerning women and children. This application directed the police to file an FIR against the film’s filmmakers, producers, and directors. The court directed the registration of this FIR. However, the accused sought to rescind the case before the High Court.
A notice has been issued to the state by the division bench that directs the state to file a reply within the next three weeks; until then, none of those mentioned above names can be arrested.
The scene that has been mentioned throughout the case involves the picturization of minor boys who are washing the blood off their hands while three dead bodies are lying beside them. In the next frame, it can be seen that one of these boys was asking about the murderer from which it can be sought that these minors are the cold-blooded murderers. They did not fling or show any bit of remorse in the eyes of the boys
