On Friday night, 7 people died in a major fire break out at shanties of Delhiās Gokul puri. According to the reports, at around 1 am last night the fire department received a call. The fire destroyed 60 huts, and 7 bodies were retrieved from the site by the fire tenders.
The fire broke out near pillar number 12 at Gokul Puri. Starting from 1 am, the fire department was able to put out the fire at around 4 am.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of North East Delhi, Devesh Kumar Pandey said that as soon as they heard the news of the fire at 1 am, they rushed to the site immediately with the equipment necessary for rescue.
He said they contacted the fire department who then sent 13 fire tenders to the location to stop the blazing flames of the fire.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal expressed his grief on the event
Delhiās Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his grief on hearing about the tragic incident early this morning. He said he will go and personally meet the affected families.Ā “Heard the sad news early in the morning. I will go to the spot and meet the affected people personally,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.
This news came in after a very celebratory day for Arvind Kejriwal on Friday, when his Aam Aadmi Party won the elections in Punjab.MP from North East Delhi, Manoj Tiwari also expressed his grief over the death of the 7 people and the destruction of the various huts.
He has demanded a judicial inquiry from CM Arvind Kejriwal on the incident. āA judicial inquiry should be conducted into the whole matter and an assistance of Rs 1 crore should be announced immediately to the kin,ā he said.Ā Manoj Tiwari will also visit the Gokul Puri area today. As of now the reason behind the fire is unknown.
