The recent directive by the MHA increasing the BSF authority in border states, including West Bengal, has caused a political brawl between the TMC, Congress, and BJP.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Following the meeting of West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress president stated that she discussed various state-related matters with the prime minister, including the contentious extension of Border Security Forces (BSF) authority.
Banerjee informed reporters that she also spoke with the prime minister about the violence in Tripura.
“Today, I met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss several state-related matters.” “We also discussed the BSF’s jurisdiction expansion problem and urged that this order be revoked,” Mamata Banerjee was reported as saying by news agency ANI.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is in New Delhi for a four-day visit ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament. During her tour, she spoke with several MPs, including BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who has been critical of the party’s leadership on several topics.
Banerjee also invited the Prime Minister to the Global Business Meet, hosted in West Bengal next year
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an order expanding the BSF’s authority up to 50 kilometres within international boundaries in border states such as West Bengal. The action has ignited a political brawl between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Dal (BJP).
The Chief Minister, who is in Delhi until November 25, also expressed his worry over the “widespread violence” in Tripura. TMC MPs have been protesting an “attack on party workers” in Tripura as the state prepares for local body elections.
Banerjee had already met with BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. Following the meeting, Swamy put to rest rumours that he would join the Trinamool Congress. “I had previously been with her” (Mamata). “I don’t see why I should join the party,” he told reporters.
Will TMC help Samajwadi Party in UP Assembly Elections
The chief minister also referenced Bengal’s BSF jurisdiction, saying, “If BSF obtains greater authority, it upsets the law-and-order situation, and one must understand that law is a state matter.” She also urged Modi that the country’s federal framework should not be harmed in any manner.
The CM was referring to the Cooch Behar instance, in which the BSF had fired indiscriminately. Mamata Banerjee also stated that the state has yet to get Rs 96,605 crore from the Centre for natural disasters that ravaged the state.
“As a result, I urged that the Prime Minister consider the problem and ensure that the federal framework is not unduly disrupted.”
Regarding the TMC’s engagement in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Banerjee stated that her party is willing to assist Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav if he requires it.
“If Akhilesh needs our cooperation, we are willing to offer it,” she remarked, as the SP head moves quickly to form pre-election coalitions to make a return in the state.
Later this month, the Trinamool chairman will go to Mumbai to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar.
