Antony in an interview last week with Fabrizio Romano said that he made it clear to the club month ago about his desire to leave. He left out the training sessions at Ajax for 2 weeks and kept pushing for a move to Manchester United. Thus the Eredivise club had to give in to the pressure after repetitively denying bids from United.
Antony player profile
22-year-old Brazilian international is a left-footed right-winger. He made 82 appearances for Ajax scoring 24 goals and assisting 22. He made 33 appearances last season scoring 12 goals and 10 assists. He spent the latter part of last season out due to an ankle injury.
Antony is leaving Ajax with a fair share of achievements. He won the national Dutch championship(Eredivisie) with the club 2 times, in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He also won the Dutch Cup in the 2020-21 season.
Antony will compete with Marcus Rashford at Man Utd for the spot of right-winger. Many fans are happy with the signing but not with the price paid for him. Antony is a solid player who is going to play a major part in a club on a rebuild. However, a 100m fee for him is not justifiable.
Manchester United’s recruitment policy is to be blamed for such a high price. They waited till the end of the window to sign an important player. Ajax was also not willing to let go of another crucial player this summer. All these factors played a role to determine a price tag of 100m.
The saga is over now and Antony is a Manchester United player. The club and manager will hope to utilize the best out of him to push the club back to where it belongs.
