At around 10 am, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab Chief Minister Designate Bhagwant Mann visited Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh on Saturday morning. He met with the Governor of Punjab, Banwari Lal Purohit, and staked a claim to form the government in the state.
At a meeting with the MLAs of the party in Mohali, Mann was elected as the Aam Aadmi Party leader on Friday. The Aam Aadmi Party swept Punjab off its feet in the recent Assembly polls by securing over 90 seats out of 117, the best performance by any party in the state.
Bhagwant Mann at his Oath Ceremony
On March 16, 2022, Mann is set to take oath as the chief minister of the state at Khatkar Kalan, which is the ancestral village of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, in Nawanshahr district.
Mann has invited everyone from across the state to his oath ceremony and to pay tribute to the great Bhagat Singh. He claimed that “together with the public of Punjab, he will make a good cabinet which will work only towards the progress of Punjab’.
He also said that “historic decisions that have never been made before will be made” and that people just need to wait.
For ministerial positions in Punjab, the names of many MLAs are being circulated, some of which are those of Harpal Singh Cheema, Aman Arora, Baljinder Kaur, Saravjit Kaur Manuke, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, and Dr Charanjit Singh.
After the failed attempts of parties like the Congress and the BJP to win over Punjab have gone in vain, people are looking forward to the new term and finding out if their decision was right or not. After Delhi, it will be the Aam Aadmi Party’s second state to enjoy power in.
Kejriwal has said that his party will keep the promise made to the people and make the state a better place for everyone to live in.
