Mary Kom is an Indian Boxer and political leader also. She is the only female who had won the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times. The only boxer from all male and female to won eight World Championship medals.

Due to her injury, Mary Kom won’t be playing in 2024 boxing Women’s World Championship.

Mary Kom’s injury

Six-time World Championship winner Mary Kom has announced that she will be pulling her out from this year’s boxing Women’s World Championship because of her injury. The 40-year-old, Indian boxer who has won the total of eight medals in the Worlds Championship tournament, has not specified the nature of the injury she had but she had mentioned that she is looking to “recover soon”.

Mary Kom was preparing herself for IBA World Championship which is scheduled to be held from May 1 to 14 this year in 2024 in the city Tashkent of Uzbekistan. In an interview with the ANI reporter she said that, “I will not be able to be part of IBA Women’s World Championship 2024 due to my injury. I am trying to recover soon and will focus on my training. I am hope that in the absence of me we came to see more champions from this championship. I wish all the best to all the participants who are participate in this championship.”

Mary Kom’s last year match and her achievements

Last year she had also missed to participate in Birmingham Commonwealth Games from the selection trials due to knee injury. Her left knee was twisted in the first few minutes of the first opening round of the 48kg semi-finals. Mary Kom had fallen on the canvas while trying to avoid a punch from her opponent in the first round of the bout.

Mary Kom is the most successful boxer in the World Championship history among the greatest Indian athletes of all time. She is the only Women boxer to won medal in every first seven World Championship and the only boxer from male and female to win total of eight World Championship medals. She is the only female Indian boxer to won gold medal in Asian games tournament in the year 2014 at Incheon, South Korea and is the first Indian Boxer to also win gold in 2018 Commonwealth Games. She is the first Indian boxer from her country to win in an Olympic games and 2nd pugilist to win Olympic medal when she won bronze medal in 2012 London Olympic games.
