At least 10 persons were reportedly killed after a fire that broke out inside a stationary train compartment in Madurai railway station in the wee hours of Saturday, informed the Southern Railway, adding a “gas cylinder” and “illegally” taken in led to the mishap. The “private party coach” with 65 passengers had arrived from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
The fire broke out inside a ‘private party coach’ attached to the Punalur-Madurai Express parked on Lane near Madurai railway station on Saturday morning. The Southern Circle Railway Safety Commissioner, B. Guganesan will take charge over a statutory investigation into the Madurai train coach fire incident on Sunday, chief public relations officer of Southern Railway informed through an official statement.
UP passengers who died
The accident happened at Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu today on Saturday (August 26) morning. According to information, all the 10 victims were residents of Uttar Pradesh and it is being told that there were a total of 65 passengers in the coach that caught fire.
On the other hand, the Southern Railway official said about the accident that a fire was reported in a private/personal coach in Punalur-Madurai Express at 5:15 am today at Madurai yard. The fire has been brought under control and there is no damage to other coaches. Along with this, the Southern Railway said that Rs. 10 lakh would be given to the family of the deceased in the incident of train fire at Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu.

CM Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep sorrow over the Madurai train accident. CM Yogi has described the Madurai train accident as extremely sad and heart-wrenching and CM Yogi has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. At the same time, CM Yogi has issued instructions for proper treatment of the injured in the accident.
CM Yogi wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and on the instructions of CM Yogi, Principal Secretary Home has taken command of this accident. At the same time, CM Yogi has given instructions to coordinate with local officials and railway officials to arrange for proper treatment of the people of UP.
Amount of 2 lakh offered
At the same time, CM Yogi approved offering the family of the dead an amount of two lakh rupees. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, has also spoken on the phone with the minister of transportation about this incident.
