Over the next several weeks, if you use Facebook Messenger for calls, you’ll notice an upgrade to the program. On Android and iOS, the social media business is releasing a dedicated ‘calls’ page. The new call button will be useful for those who use Facebook Messenger to make phone calls.
The call button will now be easier to find thanks to a new design update. The function bar at the bottom of the app will now have a dedicated tab for audio and video calls. The new tab will be next to “Chats,” “Stories,” and “People,” and will display a list of the user’s contacts, as well as specific voice and video call options.
Your contact list will open when you click on the new tab. Users had to establish a thread with a buddy to call them before this update. The new page simplifies the process by allowing users to simply dial their friends. Meta might use the Calls tab to introduce the option to folks who aren’t familiar with Messenger’s calling features.
It’s a minor adjustment, but it’s most likely a move to make Messenger more like Whatsapp in terms of texting and calling. To call a friend before the update, users had to establish a separate chat thread with them. The new feature allows users to call friends directly and may act as an introduction to Messenger’s calling features for those who are unfamiliar with them. Facebook Messenger has been one of the most popular videos calling apps throughout the pandemic. Because of the increase in audio and video calls, the decision to integrate calling on the Messenger app’s main screen was made.
Meta’s Messenger Takes Video Calling to the Next Level with Augmented Reality and Enhanced Features
Since early 2020, every audio and video call on Messenger has jumped by 40%, according to Meta. Early this year, the company added emotions, stickers, message-specific replies, and forwarding to its encrypted messaging platform. Until 2024, Meta hopes to make end-to-end encryption the default for Facebook and Instagram. It has added a number of augmented reality (AR) effects to its video chats, allowing users to play with filters, masks, and animations.
The new Calls tab was created by Meta’s Remote Presence org, which is the product and platform team in charge of Meta Technologies’ video and audio calling experiences. The new Calls option, according to Meta, is one of many features aimed at helping users improve their relationships with others.
Over the last few months, Meta has been striving to improve Messenger and has released a number of new features. In March, the firm launched new features and shortcuts, including a “@everyone” tool that works similarly to Slack and notifies all chat participants when a new message is received. Meta It has also added a “/silent” feature. When you write “/silent” before sending a message in a group chat, the other members of the group will not receive any indication.
Messenger’s “Split Payments” functionality was made available to all iOS and Android users in the United States in February. Late last year, the business started testing the function as a method for customers to share the cost of bills and expenses via the app. According to Meta, the new feature offers a “free and fast” way to manage finances through Messenger.
Messenger’s new voice message recording options, which allow users to pause, preview, delete, or continue recording a voice message before sending it, were revealed at the same time as Split Payments. Voice message duration has also been improved from one minute to 30 minutes.
Messenger competes with a vast variety of free chat apps, including Google Voice, Viber, Signal, and WhatsApp, which Meta purchased in 2014. While focusing on the audio and video features doesn’t help Messenger stand out from the throng, it is one of the few major apps in this crowded industry that doesn’t require a phone number to use, aside from FaceTime.
