Hurricane Roslyn is rapidly making its imminent arrival to Mexico, now strengthening to category 3, on its way to the Pacific coast of the country.Â
Estados Unidos Mexicanos, or United Mexican States/Mexico, is currently battling a force of nature, Hurricane Roslyn. This immensely powerful hurricane is expected to cause large-scale destruction, especially in the coastal regions of the country.Â
Hurricane Roslyn made its landfall on the shores of the Nayarit state, with extreme winds reaching all the way up to 195km/h (120 mph).Â
Earlier on Sunday, the US National Hurricane Centre stated that hurricane Roslyn had become extremely dangerous, coming through in full force and with extreme winds reaching all way up to 130 mph (215 kph). The hurricane was estimated to cause winds that would damage property extensively.
The US National Hurricane Center reported on Sunday that Roslyn was a storm that could result in the loss of multiple lives and that the western region of Mexico was going to be the area hardest hit.
Operational meteorologists or weather forecasters had stated that Hurricane Roslyn would likely sweep or flow close to the municipality of Cabo Corrientes and the region of Puerto Vallarta during the last hours of the evening.
They even issued a warning for the citizens of those townships to not be hasty and unmindful of hurricane Roslyn’s coming or passing through their towns, as those regions would still be affected by incredible high-level winds, excessive and dense rainfall, and rough surf.
Las Islas MarÃas, Playa Perula, and Escuinapa were among the towns that were given or issued a hurricane warning. Consequently, a hurricane watch was established in the northern region of Escuinapa to Mazatlan, as reported by the hurricane center.Â
No longer ago, before Hurricane Roslyn came ashore in Nayarit state, another storm, Hurricane Orlene first made its landfall on Oct 3, in the northern part of the same area, about 75 kilometers southeast of the resort of Mazatlan.
The US National Hurricane Center said that strong winds extended out 30 miles from Roslyns’s center, while tropical storm force winds extended out to 80 miles.
The towns of Cabo Corrientes, El Robleto, and the Islas Marias were cautioned and received a warning about the upcoming storm that is headed their way.
However, they did not take the warning very seriously and tourists from these towns continued in their leisure time, eating and roaming around Puerto Vallarta and the smaller resorts farther north in Nayarit, where the storm has now finally hit.
A hotel receptionist at the Casa Maria hotel in Puerto Vallarta commented that everything had been fine and that everything that was happening was a normal thing for them to experience.
He said that if the winds got stronger, the hotel would gather all the furnishings kept outdoors in order to prevent them from flying around.
Another receptionist named Patricia Morales, who works at the Punta Guayabitos hotel, said that their location is a tourist spot, so it was filled mostly with tourists. She also emphasized that no word of precaution was passed down to them by anyone.
Even when the clouds began to darken, as the thunder roared, not everyone who was present there would get up and move to a safer place. They were ignorant of the serious implications it could have on their lives. In Puerto Vallarta, swimmers were still enjoying their time at the sea despite knowing a storm was approaching.
Before the onset of Hurricane Roslyn at Nayarit, Pedro Núñez, who is the head of the state civil demise office had remarked that at that moment they were patrolling the towns in order to notify the people about hurricane Roslyn so that they could keep their belongings safe but more importantly, so that they could move over to a better and safer location, away from the storm.
Around 270 residents in the neighbouring state of Jalisco were evacuated to a town near the place where the hurricane was expected to land as reported by Enrique Alfaro, the Governor of Jalisco.
Also, in the town of Puerto Vallarta, a number five emergency camps were set up for the safety of the people.
The extreme rainfall that hurricane Roslyn will bring forth could cause mudslides and in certain areas could lead to floods. This was reported by the National Water Commission.
The US National Hurricane Centre cautioned about how the storm would be amplified along the coast and amount to about 10 to 15 centimeters of rain.
The National Water Commission said that rains from Roslyn could cause mudslides and flooding. The U.S. hurricane center also warned of treacherous storm outpours along the coast, as well as 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 centimeters) of rain.
Since the storm hit Nayarit, many municipalities in the state, as well as neighbouring Jalisco state, are setting up emergency camps for the people who have been evacuated.
The storm is anticipated to last till the month of November as the hurricane season in Mexico usually starts in June and ends in the month of November.
