A joint initiative has been announced by the USA and Mexico.
On Tuesday, American president Joe Biden organized a meeting at the White House with Mexican president Andrés Manuel López. On the same day, the border agreement was also made. The two nations were likely to agree to work together on a multi-year project to improve the border infrastructure along their 2,000-mile borderline as part of their negotiations.
In a joint declaration, the two governments promised to make immediate and coordinated efforts to limit the number of migrants arriving in both countries and to combat rising inflation by enhancing bilateral commerce and lowering trade costs.
Drug Traffickers
Drug traffickers started using the water as a route. According to experts, drug smuggling along the border is similar to a balloon. Squeezing one area just causes the air to go to another area. Since taking office at the beginning of 2021, Biden has dealt with more than 2.8 million arrests along the U.S.-Mexico border, a record-breaking number.
The projects will upgrade and extend border crossings and build Otay Mesa II between San Diego and Tijuana. The two sides agreed to strengthen their efforts to combat gang activity, and Biden promised that the US and Mexico would move quickly to stop the trafficking of the potent synthetic drug fentanyl.
In an attempt by Biden to distance himself from the sour relationship between the United States and Mexico under the Trump administration, the collaboration reflects a form of restart between the two countries. Politics has hindered Biden’s efforts to carry out his immigration agenda.
Trump made the following promises when he began his presidential campaign in 2015: “I will build a great, great wall on our southern border. And I will have Mexico pay for that wall,” In 2019, then-President Donald Trump vowed to put tariffs on Mexican imports unless Mexico stop the inflow of immigrants entering through its territory illegally.
Due to a high demand for employees in the United States and a slow economy in Mexico, more Mexicans have crossed the border illegally in recent years. The month of May saw a substantial growth in the number of Mexican migrants arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol, from 18,000 to over 70,000.
