Destructive Death Bowling
With only 9 runs to defend in the final over, Daniel Sams bowled a masterclass of death bowling, combining wide yorkers, slower balls, and hard length balls to dismiss David Miller and Rahul Tewatia.
After the first two balls failed to produce a boundary, the latter was run out in the third, pushing for a second. Miller had two chances to get a six to win, but both were missed as Sams hit outside of his hitting arc.
At the start
With little glitches, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill put on a brilliant opening stand of 106 runs in 12.1 overs.
Early in the powerplay, the former was the aggressor, scoring 37 runs off 54 balls in the first six overs and completing his fifty in just 34 balls.
While burning Jasprit Bumrah, Saha represented Gujarat by punching above his weight. Over the course of a few overs, he drove, flipped, pulled, and lofted Bumrah, hitting three fours and two sixes against the pacer.
Tim David
He single-handedly upped the scoring rate after replacing Kieron Pollard, who had battled to 4 off 14 balls. He hit four sixes in his 21-ball 44.
When Pollard came in, Mumbai had 111 on the board after 12 overs, but his pace kept him in the game until Rashid Khan took him out with a leg break.
Tilak Varma was also hushed by Rashid, who concluded with figures of 2 for 24 in 4 overs (21 off 16). David, on the other hand, was tasked with bolstering the innings by hitting clean lofts down the ground against the pacers.
MI Start
After being given the bat, Mumbai got off to the best possible start. On a terrific batting field, Rohit Sharma rediscovered his hitting form and set the tone early, scoring 42 of MI’s 63 runs in the powerplay.
Alzarri Joseph was dismissed in two overs by Rohit Sharma, who drove, flicked, and lofted him for four fours and a six. As he ran away, he scooped Mohammed Shami for a six.
Ishan Kishan, his partner, got lucky with a few inside edges that went to the boundary. He, too, kept up the tempo by carefully selecting his targets. Until Rohit went down, missing a reverse sweep against Rashid, the tandem scored 74 points.
After a pair of easy dismissals-Suryakumar Yadav lofting too far on and Ishan being duped by a slower one-MI were pegged back before their middle-overs sloth. On the other hand, their bowlers dug them out of the hole and kept them alive.
Mumbai Indians 177/6 (Ishan Kishan 45, Tim David 44*, Rohit Sharma 43; Rashid Khan 2-24) beat Gujarat Titans 172/5 (Wriddhiman Saha 55, Shubman Gill 52; M Ashwin 2-29) by 5 runs.
Hence Mumbai beat Gujrat Titans in the Ipl 2022, and Sams was the star of IPL 2022.
