Microsoft announced last year that from June 15 onward internet explorer will finally retire. Internet Explorer started back in 1995 and completed its 27 years. Â
Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was the first gateway to the internet and information for many people. Icon with a Letter “e” in blue and surrounding that letter with an orbit. Â
Why the need to retire Microsoft’s Internet Explorer?Â
It started on a good foot but steadily and surely it was decreasing in popularity and slower processing speed.
Even Microsoft knows that Internet Explorer was slow and sluggish that’s why they released Microsoft Edge in 2015 to replace Internet Explorer. Â
Internet Explorer saw a decline when it released its IE6 version. This version was full of bloatware and frustrating performance.
IE6 version sluggish behavior and release of browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox made the internet Explorer difficult to recommend. Â
Once Internet explorer had a 95% usage share and now it is only remembered as a meme for its bad things. Internet Explorer is a memory people who used it when 64kb/s was considered high-speed internet won’t forget. Â
From June 15, The Internet Explorer application will be disabled. Users who try to open Internet Explorer will be redirected to Microsoft Edge. Â
The successor of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Â
Microsoft Edge now will be the official browser of Microsoft after Internet Explorer holds the flag for 27 years.
Microsoft Edge, the successor of Internet Explorer is based on a platform called chromium. Chromium is the base on which Google Chrome is Built.Â
Now Microsoft will work around Microsoft Edge as a primary browser and looks to improve its market share which is 9% as of 2022. Microsoft Edge is safer and faster and will provide a more modern browsing experience.  Â
Microsoft Edge will address key concerns like compatibility for older, legacy website and applications.
Edge also comes with an in-built Internet Explorer mode which will give users a familiar feeling of IE-based websites and cherished memory.Â
Despite being so old and sluggish Internet Explorer still holds strong brand value. Many surveys show that people recognized Chrome (95%) followed by Internet Explorer (85%) and other browsers as follows (Apple Safari 80% and Edge 69%).Â
The same survey also shows that of all the people who are aware of Internet Explorer only 28% still use it.
The most common reason for people who were still using Explorer was “It was preinstalled” and no other reason to use other browsers.Â
Problems Faced due to retirement of Microsoft Internet Explorer Â
Internet Explorer has become synonymous with slowness and long loading times. But it played a huge role in 90s-born people as it was the first browser they used. The first way of getting information and watching videos online.Â
Due to the retirement of Internet Explorer, Japan will be most affected as it was found in a survey that around 50% of Companies still use IE.
The most common use was for house management, data exchange, and accounting systems.Â
Asian companies should have transitioned to another browser a long time ago because Microsoft announced that it will discontinue IE, but they refused to follow.
They now have to shift rapidly and efferently as they need to secure their data and still want to continue their operations.
Now that Internet Explorer is retiring, we can see it as the first step we took towards better future development. It was the stepping stone for many people and companies for their modern development.
