The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has registered its name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In fact, in the final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, more than one lakh spectators were present in the ground at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which has become a record.

Significantly, the IPL 2022 final between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In that final match, 101566 people came to the ground and watched the match. BCCI tweeted on making the Guinness World Record, ‘This is a big moment for every Indian as India has made a Guinness World Record. All our fans and viewers have made this possible because of their unmatched passion and unwavering support. Best wishes to Narendra Modi Stadium and IPL.

This years final match of IPL 2022, GT captured the title by defeating RR by seven wickets. Batting first in the title match, RR scored 130/9.

Chasing the score, GT easily won the match with the help of Shubman Gill (45*) innings.In IPL 2022, GT won 10 of their 14 matches in the league stage.

A glimpse at the historical Significance of  this ground

In 1984, India played its first ODI at home in Ahmedabad. Sachin Tendulkar scored his 18000th ODI run here (vs Australia, World Cup 2011 quarter final). Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh scored his maiden Test century (vs New Zealand, 2010) at this venue. Last year, Ravichandran Ashwin took his 400th Test wicket in Ahmedabad. He became the second off-spinner from India to do so.

Notably, The Narendra Modi Stadium was formerly known as the name Motera stadium, was built in 1982 and was refurbished in 2021. It hosted the second qualifier as well as the final of the 15th season of IPL on 29th of May 2022
