IVF clinics on the rise: How urban living is impacting fertility
Here are some reasons that lead to infertility at a young age:
Women factor:
Polycystic ovarian disorder/ syndrome (PCOD/PCOS)
It is a condition where women’s ovaries start producing more androgen (a type of hormone) than usual. A higher level of such hormones interferes with the development of ovarian follicles and the release of eggs during ovulation. This may lead to, fluid-filled sacs, or cysts, which can develop within the ovaries. Studies have shown that one out of every five women has PCOS/PCOD, which is one of the major causes of infertility.
Unhealthy body weight
An inactive lifestyle and being overweight/obese may cause infertility and increase the risk of miscarriage. Also, eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia or being on a very low-calorie diet may also cause infertility problems.
Tubal issues
A fallopian tube is a pair of tubes by which sperm travels from the uterus to the ovaries. Because of damaged/blocked tubes, sperm can’t travel to the eggs and prevent the fertilized egg from getting to the uterus. As the success rate of IVF is not 100% and it shouldn’t be something a young couple should completely rely on. Instead, improving the lifestyle could be very beneficial
