Post the emergency committee meeting, the World Health Organization abstained from naming the monkeypox outbreak a global public health emergency.
WHO had held a meeting to talk about the gravity of the monkeypox outbreak.
It was concluded that at the moment monkeypox does not add up to a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, which is the highest degree of alert that WHO can issue but acknowledged that the committee’s formation itself underscores the growing worry about the spread of monkeypox internationally.
If proper precautions are not taken including personal protective types of equipment, this will leave the medical health workers at a higher risk of coming in contact with the virus.
