After creating devastation in the northern parts of India now the monsoon, has turned towards the down South and authorities have urged the people of the southern states to take precautions and stay indoors. Red Alerts have been forecasted for heavy to extremely heavy rain in several districts of Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala. Telangana authorities have ordered to shut all schools and colleges due to incessant rain in the state.
Two Girls were washed away in the overflowing stream in Mahabubnagar, Telangana on Tuesday as heavy rain led to the inundation of low-lying areas and the road link has also been disrupted at several places in the state. The two teenage girls weren’t aware of the overflowing stream and got swept away, the police said. To avoid Traffic Jams, the Hyderabad Police have requested the IT companies to log out from their office Phase-wise.
Heavy Rain in Karnataka Caused 4 deaths
At least 4 people died in the heavy rain incident in Karnataka, the lost lives belonged from Udupi and Vijayapura, the authorities said on Tuesday. There was a lot of destruction happened in several parts of Karnataka. Major property and houses were destroyed and washed away in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District, the official source said. Vehicles are getting swept away with the flow of water in many places.
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda said that 27 people lost their lives between June 1 and July 24 due to lightning strikes. He added that the state is on high alert due to continuous downpours and floods in the state.
According to the reports, the continuous downpour has caused havoc in the state, and a portion of the Kindi dam at Lingottu washed away. More than 15 houses have been submerged in the flood water, forcing people to shift to better places. Many dams and lakes due to excessive rain are filled to the brim and many low-lying are inundated in the affected areas.
In view of Incessant Rainfall, Indian Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a Red Alert to all three coastal districts of Karnataka, namely Udupi, Chikkamgaluru, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada predicting heavy rain in the next 24 hours, and urges the people of these places to brace themselves for the upcoming situation.
Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Belgavi have been alerted to Orange alert, while Bagalkote, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Ballari, and Hassan have been put on to Yellow alert. Amid the rainfall, the Karnataka authorities have declared holidays for all educational institutions. Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah has done a virtual meeting with Deputy Commissioners of all districts to discuss the situation of the state and also the damages that happened due to the heavy rain in the state.
Yellow Alert in the State of Kerala
According to IMD, Kerala might receive heavy rainfall in the range of 7 to 11 cm at isolated places in the next 48 hours. A low-pressure area formed above the Bay of Bengal might concentrate into a depression in the next 24 hours.
IMD issued Yellow Alert in 8 districts on Wednesday, including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, and Kannur. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain along with lightning in the state till 6 September.
A yellow alert has been issued in Indukki, Kollam, Malappuram, and Pathanamthitta on Saturday. While for Sunday, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idduki, Thrissur, Malappiram, Kozhikode, Wayand, Kasargod, and Kannur are warned for the yellow alert. These Districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall with 64.5cm to 115.5mm in the next 24 hours.
